Speakers: Steve Zawoyski, Kevin Wright and Linda Smith – PricewaterhouseCoopers
The presentation will cover Payroll Internal Controls/SOX, challenges of compliance, audit trends, common mistakes, best practices and the role that payroll departments have in the SOX process.
Steve Zawoyski is Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers with over 20 years of experience. He has extensive knowledge and experience in providing internal audit services to clients across the retail, consumer and industrial product industries. As the “subject matter champion” within the Retail and Consumer (R&C) practice, Steve provides guidance to individual client engagement teams and is responsible for the development of underlying knowledge content supporting the area. In addition to his role within the R&C practice, Steve serves as a Partner in the Internal Audit Services practice, where he supports clients in a variety of functions, including internal audit co-sourcing, internal controls evaluation and design, process improvement, internal audit transformation and financial statement audits. He also performs strategic and benchmarking assessments of leading internal audit departments.
Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the Illinois State University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Illinois and Minnesota.
Linda Smith is a Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) Internal Audit Services practice and has been with PwC for over ten years. She specializes in internal audit services focusing on providing SOX 404 compliance services, as well as internal audit outsourcing, internal audit transformation, and business process improvement services. Throughout her tenure in the Internal Audit Services practice, Linda has had overall engagement manager responsibility for a SOX 404 readiness project of a large publicly held client, with her role spanning all aspects of SOX 404 implementation. Prior to her role in Internal Audit Services, Linda was a manager in our Assurance group, managing external audit engagements for publicly held clients.
Linda received her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa, is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Minnesota.
Kevin Wright is a Manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Advisory Technology practice with seven years of experience. Kevin is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) with experience providing assurance services related to internal controls over financial reporting. This has specifically included the management and delivery of information technology general control assessments in support of external financial audits, Type II SAS 70 reports, internal controls optimization consulting projects and sensitive data security assessments. Kevin’s combination of accounting and information systems education provides a well rounded and experienced based point of view on systems risks and controls of closest relevance to the financial reporting environment.
Kevin received his B.S. from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.
